On the 11th on December, glorious and entertaining bouts took place at the first installment of “FIGHT NIGHT WARRI”. The event was not only show-stopping, but was incredibly unique and unprecedented for the city of Warri. Fight Night Warri was a special night with not only top-class boxing matches, but also amazing performances and entertainment to keep the crowd going. The battle in Warri kingdom was Warri Vs. Lagos to showcase the Nigerian talent and see who comes out top and strong.
The event’s main bout was The Nigerian King, Eworitse Ezra Arenyeka and Abolaji Rasheed.
For his entrance, Eworitse came in surrounded with Itsekiri traditional dancers and musicians dressed majestically in their tribal attire. He was dressed in Green white green but also had a flag of the Itsekiri kingdom around his neck to proudly represent his tribe and Warri as a whole. This fired up the crowd in anticipation for the amazing match up.
Eworitse said “I knew it would not be a straight forward match with Abolaji but I’ve been training and I was ready to go and get the victory”.
As expected Eworitse’s was too powerful for Abolaji to handle and his team threw in the towel after an explosive round of right hands from the Nigerian King. Thus, Eworitse was victorious winning the National Super Middle weight title by way of Fifth Round Technical Knock Out. This marks Eworitse’s 8th victory (7KO) and secured his continual winning strick.
There were also other amazing match ups with the first fight of the night being between Olamiposi Kehinde Solomon and Toyin Omarayi. It was an intense match with lots of punches given. Though it didn't end in a knockout, Olamiposi Kehinde Solomon (Kenny) won by a unanimous decision from the three judges after 6 rounds of female super-flyweight contest.
The second fight was between Light-heavyweight Victor Beneth and Ifeanyi. They fought with everything in them and even though Victor got hit below the belt during the first round, he emerged as the winner in the end by knockout in round 4.
The third fight was between youth Olympian Adijat Gbadamosi and Oluwakemi Thomas. These two ladies gave the audience a good show, and in the end by a technical knockout, Adijat emerged the winner in round 4 of 6 Bantaweight contest fight.
Also, Kazakhstan's Temirzhan Baimolda knocked out Ali Shaibu in round 5 of 8 rounds Super-Lightweight fight. This was the fourth fight and it was not only energy filled but a fight for honour as both of them gave us a boxing show to last us a long time. Overall, all the fights showcased immense boxing talent and showed the people of Warri how amazing boxing is and introduced a new audience to the sophistication a boxing event can have.
Performances by Zazino, Onos Z, Tero, Omoniga, Beastly Savage, Egoyibo, Kelvin Bahdboi and Dr KK also kept the crowd going and helped create a balance between the boxing contests.
