On the 20th of September 2022, Eworitse Ezra Arenyeka, professional boxer; met with his Imperial Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri.
In the meeting, they discussed Eworitse bringing boxing to the Warri Kingdom at large and using it to promote sports and to impact the lives of people positively. Eworitse discussed his aim as a professional boxer to make a difference with each and every fight through the Ezra Arenyeka Foundation.
The Ezra Arenyeka Foundation will take on the mission of nourishment, education, quality of life and health. With children minded projects ranging from providing daily and proper nutrition to schooling, housing, physical activities and rehabilitation.
With his passion for the sport of boxing, he was driven to bring a boxing event to his hometown of Warri. The event, “Fight Night Warri” will be the first of its kind of such a boxing event in Warri city where entertainment will meet boxing.
The sport has potential to expand and thrive in Nigeria and be a means of youth empowerment and growth for many local boxers and with this in mind, Eworitse is hosting a boxing event in Warri. He said, “my hometown is extremely important to me and is the perfect breeding ground to shed more light on the sport and out amazing town”. Though hailing from Warri and being a professional boxer, Eworitse currently lives in the diaspora where he is completing a PhD in the University of East Anglia, United Kingdom.
His Imperial Majesty, the Olu of Warri endorsed the event following the meeting and said, “I believe in Nigerians in the diaspora coming back home and making a difference”. He expressed his absolute support of ‘Fight Night Warri’ and stated that he will attending the event, show support, create publicity for it as well as invite some other dignified individuals to the event to also support the event
